In June of 2011, several 9-10 year old girls were sexually assaulted by a prominent member of the Falls Church, VA community. During the 51 months of investigations, trials, appeals, and retrials, the local press and some influential members of the community were publicly supportive of the perpetrator, as opposed to the child victims. Once the perpetrator pled guilty to all charges in September of 2015, information regarding the case began to be released to the community, at which time a civic minded citizen, established a sign campaign to let the girls know that they did the right thing in coming forward and enduring the difficult legal process.
The sign campaign, called We SUPPORT the GIRLS, has continued and expanded to include educational and charitable aspects. WSTG collaborates with the Arlington Child Advocacy Center and the OASIS Alliance to support victims, empower survivors, and advocate for child sexual abuse prevention education.
We SUPPORT the GIRLS is lead by a volunteer board of directors from across Falls Church, VA.
